DFV Faculty News:

Thank you, Janet McIntyre!

As many of you are already aware, our esteemed Department Director, Janet McIntyre, has accepted the position of Dean of Integrated Media, Performing and Visual Arts at Mt. Hood Community College.  Although we will miss her, we are excited that she is embarking on this wonderful new opportunity.  Yay, Janet!

 

Full-time faculty member Co O'Neill is now the Department Director for the DFV, VEMG and PHD departments. 

 

Adjunct Instructor Josh Kletzkin Joins the DFV Department

Josh Kletzkin is an editor and cinematographer. He recently directed the documentary feature 'A is for ASH' about
Irish rock legends Ash, and co-produced 'Throw Down Your Heart' about musician Bela Fleck's journey to Africa in search of the roots of the banjo. His recent credits as editor include Bravo's 'Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style,' Nickelodeon’s 'The Wonder Pets' and MTV’s 'True Life.' As cinematographer, Josh has shot music videos and live concert footage for artists including The Punch Brothers, Panic at the Disco, The Terrordactyls, and The Panama Kings. He was also camera operator for Live@MTV, a web based performance series that has featured Bjork, Fall
Out Boy, John Mayer, and others.

Alumni-Student Mixer

Instead of having our usual Hollywood Theatre screening this quarter, we're hosting an alumni-student mixer event here at the school on Friday, September 10th at 7pm in the Open Space.
 
We'll play the reels of our SU10 DFV graduates (about 30 mins total), have some food and mingle after.

Congratulations to Co O'Neill!

Co O'Neill has been promoted to Department Director of Digital Film and Video, Visual Effects and Motion Graphics and Photography and Design.
 
Co's plans include keeping the departments up-to-date with current technology and industry trends to better prepare our students for the fast-changing world of digital media. 
 
His office is in Room 324 within the Education Office on the 3rd Floor and his direct line is (503)382-4791.  Feel free to stop by and introduce yourself.
 
 

Students Win Awards in the 24 Hour Film Race

The 2010 Film Racing Tour came to Portland on Friday, June 25th and challenged local filmmakers to create original films in just 24 hours based on the following assignment:   THEME:  Super  SURPRISE ELEMENT:  A business card.

Several DFV students teamed up to take part in the race, which resulted in a 2nd place prize for audience choice at the Hollywood Theatre on June 30th.In the overall judging, it took 2nd runner up (roughly third place) and walked away with 4 awards (the most given to a single film) our awards were "Best Cinematography", "Best Editing", "Best Set Design", and "Best Make-Up".
 

 Jessie Charleton Wins OMPA Scholarship

Congratulations to DFV student Jessie Charleton, who won a Media Arts Education scholarship from the Oregon Media Production Association!
 
The OMPA Media Arts Education Fund provides scholarships to further opportunities in the following fields: journalism, film, video, audio, photography and multi-media.
 
 

Doc Challenge 2010 a Success!

 Congratulations to the Winter Documentary Production class, who made two excellent short docs in conjunction with the 2010 International Documentary Challenge.
Into the Sea chronicles the history of an Oregon seaside resort that fell into the ocean last century, and a current town that is likewise threatened by coastal erosion.
Death Goes Green is an intimate portrait of the pioneers of Oregon's green burial movement. This film has the additional distinction of being selected as one of the 12 contest finalists.  It premiered at the prestigious Hot Docs International Film Festival in Toronto, Canada on May 2nd, where it won the additional distinctions of "Best Nature Documentary" and "Best Original Score."
The students would like to thank all who made it possible to compete:  administrators, faculty, staff, fellow students, Doc Challenge alumni, family, friends, and outside donors.
